It was just at the end of a long day, where Matthias had actually caught something and was rather full fed, that it happened. You would be right to blame him - he had let his guard down. But his reaction probably wasn't the best, and really reflected poorly on himself.

He had just lay down under a pine tree and was almost asleep when a pinecone fell directly on his head. He jerked straight up and glanced around worriedly. Another pinecone fell on him. Generally optimistic, Matt's response was quite unlike him. "THE SKY IS FALLING! HELP! HELP!" he shouted as more pinecones rained around him.

In truth, the pinecones came from a group of angry squirrels that didn't like how he had caught one of their friends earlier. So they were plucking pinecones off the trees and chucking them at the apprentice aged tom.

Matthias was relieved. "Oh, thank you." he mewed, getting to his paws. "I know I'm small, so I kind of look like some kind of prey or something. It's happened before. Or were you doing that for a different reason? If it was to scare me, you were pretty good at it."

Appearance.
The first thing you'll notice is how small Matthias is. He's quite possibly only up to the shoulder of other cats his age. He makes up for this with his longer than usual tail and agility, although he practically knows nothing about hunting and has been getting most of his food through scavenging. Matt has large, clear yellow eyes and is a dark brown tabby with jet black and thick stripes, which can sometimes be a bit disorienting.
Personality.
If you could hear Matthias' thoughts, they'd be pretty optimistic - or at least as optimistic as could be for the given situation. Matt's one of those quiet cats that tries to see the best in everything and everyone. He also is naturally curious, leading him off on wild and crazy adventures sometimes.
Plot(detailed please). Matthias used to be an Oilclan member named Messangerkit. He was one of those runts of the litters, and he didn't fit in too well among the generally somewhat evil cats of Oilclan. When they started the war, Matthias was about eight moons, old enough to run away, which he did. Unfortunately, his mentor hadn't taught him very much, so he found he had a hard time surviving on his own. He's still wandering around the loner lands today, and he absolutely hates it if anyone calls him Messangerpaw. He prefers Matthias or Matt.

What would you use the firstplace prize for. I'd roleplay the character!
What would you use the secondplace prize for. I think I'd let Matthias have the power.
What would you use the thirdplace prize for. Once again, I'd roleplay with the canine, maybe make Matthias a friend.

"I'm Zyara." she replied with a flick of her tail. "I like your name," the tigon added after a moment.

Darkened cocked her head and continued to watch the firefly. It hovered in midair for a moment before doing a figure eight in the sky, creating for a moment a glowing trail of figure eight light that faded as soon as the firefly had stopped. It was almost as if it was putting on a show.
